About

Hello, and welcome to my website! I’m Catherine Talbot, a cyberpsychologist, and PhD student at the University of Exeter. My PhD research examines the use of social media by people with dementia. I am interested in social media, online communities, health, technology, digital ethics, body image, gender, qualitative methods, and science communication.

I am also a committee member of the British Psychology Society South West Branch and the Vice Chair of the Psychology Postgraduate Affairs Group (PsyPAG).

I received my BSc (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Bath in 2016. While studying at the University of Bath, I examined eating disorder and fitness communities on social media, and came runner up in the Helen Haste competition for creative writing.

I frequently comment in the press on issues concerning eating disorders and social media. I am also interested in creative science communication and have recently worked with a Devon-based artist to produce an exhibition based on my research. As a result of my work in science communication, I was recently shortlisted for Elsevier’s Early Career Researcher Science Communication Award.

I also have a blog on this website in which i write about PhD life. I try to write openly about my experiences of doing research, and hope that I can help others by sharing my PhD journey.
